Our Saturday

Saturday morning we decided to go to our first Farmer's Market of the season.  It was Matthew's first Farmer's Market ever!  I love our little town square and I love how they have cute little things like this going on downtown!

I've been going through last summer's outfits and JM can wear a few from last year!  Yay!  We found that Matthew can wear a few of JM's from last summer.  They will have to be taken in a little, but basically JM's seersucker alligator outfit fit pretty well!  When you spend a decent amount of money on smocked clothes it's nice to get a lot of wear out of them; you with me on this one?!

Here's our two cuties dressed in green for the morning!  We HAVE to get up earlier to go because it was almost stupid to go this late!

I know this is only half a picture, but this was Matthew's face when we pulled him over to see the fountain in the middle of our square.

You can really see his little brown hair coming in pretty well!

And I cannot tell you how many pictures we have from last summer that look just like this!  John Michael loves the fountain and he loves to put his little toes in the water!  It's our tradition!

He loves water!  While we were there we ran into our neighbors from up the road who have a little boy just a few weeks yonger than Matthew. There are so many little boys in our SS class and we're hoping they grow up to be big pals! They brought their dog and it made us sad we didn't bring Jack.  We have promised him he's going next weekend!

Dadin and John Michael at the fountain

Mama and John Michael.  I'm shocked I actually got in a picture instead of being the one always taking them!

We got some super yummy organic blueberries and let me tell you they were SO good.  We have been snacking on them and JM loved them too.  The little containers from Wal-Mart produce section can't hold a candle to these.

And real quick I wanted to share a yummy ham recipe.  After we got in from the Farmer's Market I didn't have but a few minutes to whip up something and we are SO sick of eating sammiches for lunch on the weekends so I thought we'd eat a "real" dinner!

My mom used to make this but she would get her ham steak a lot thicker than this.

-Run a knife along the top of the ham and score it into small squares.

-In a sauce pan mix together brown sugar and a bunch of squeezes of mustard.  (Can you tell how exact this is, there's no real recipe!)  Stirring continuously, melt the brown sugar mixture until it's runny.

-Pour brown sugar mixture over ham and put it under the broiler in the oven.  It only takes a few minutes.  Watch it to make sure it doesn't burn under the broiler!

In no time flat we were enjoying this ham, corn on the cob, potatoes (from a packet!) and sweet tea!  Jordan says that this is honestly one of his top favorite meals.  Who knew?!

We love Saturdays around our house!

Peas, Please

Last weekend John Michael helped me make baby food for Matthew!  I was making peas and JM looked so interested in what we were making....

So I popped some pureed peas in a little bowl.....

And I was never more shocked when he actually ate them!

I couldn't believe he was eating them!  And, he just kept eating.  Tonight I even defrosted some of the frozen cubes of peas and he ate those with dinner.  This is pretty impressive for a toddler that hasn't eaten anything green in a long, long while!

And, while it's processed into a thick mush (Matthew is NOT a fan) if it's a way to get him to eat something green, I'm going to stick with it!  I was thinking about ordering "The Sneaky Chef" book.  I figured it might be a way to sneak in some other veggies into his diet!  Thoughts?

But just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts.

New Friends

Last week we had some new friends over to play!  I met Hannah at a local get together for our sorority alumni association.  I always wondered if there were any other girls in this area and I was right, there are!  There's even one girl from my very own chapter in our area!

So Hannah brought her little cutie, Colin, and she also brought some outrageously yummy cupcakes.  We let the boys play, and play they did!  We have tons of boy toys at our house, so everyone had something fun to play with!

We ate poppyseed chicken casserole, green beans, rolls and had sweet tea.  Our little guys had fun playing together!  We'll definitely have to have them over again in all this heat and let our guys play out back in the yard with the sprinkler!

These are all the pictures I took.  I'm NOT stealing the picture of me from her blog.  It is horrendeous!  I cannot wait for my hair to grow out.  Between my awful postpartum hair and the heat I think I might be in a permanent ponytail all summer long. Worst, worst mistake of my life to cut my hair short!

I'm so glad they came!  It's so nice to meet new people and let John Michael and Matthew play with new friends!

What's Up Here?!

"Hey, what's up here?!

I guess not too much!

On to bigger and better things!

I love to crawl on my picnic table!"

In A Flash!

Look who turned 6 months old!!!

He is so big that he outgrew his Graco carrier so now he has a Britax just like John Michael's!  Don't they look so cute facing each other in the car?!

At 6 months old, our little fella is still as happy as ever.  He is outgrowing his 12 month clothes, we moved him up to size 4 diapers, and he can wear JM's nighttime diapers.

He is rolling everywhere and he can almost army crawl to get to things he wants!  JM has been bringing baby toys to him lately or he'll pick up Matthew's hand and hold it.  It warms my heart!

He can be kind of serious sometimes

and thoughtful, too!

Matthew is eating a few foods: bananas, apples, sweet potatoes, prunes, and he's tried pears twice!  Unfortunately for me, it seems like he isn't liking the homemade baby food.  We didn't have a problem with JM not liking it.  I'm not sure if it's a texture issue or not.  The store baby food is so much smoother and creamier than homemade.  We'll see.  Hopefully he'll come around!

I  think he looks a lot like Jordan!

Yup, he's one cool 6 month old!

We just love him to pieces.  I think we'll keep him!

How in the world did 6 months pass in a flash?!

Just An Ordinary Friday!

Friday was a really fun day around here!  We started out our day by being horribly late to our last meeting of MOPS!  There were poop and mucous issues that prevented us from leaving on time!  I was sad that it was our last day of MOPS, but I plan on going back in the fall.  I hope to see a lot of the same faces then.

When we got out to the car after our meeting, what did I find in my car?!  Why, it was a precious note from my wonderful husband.  He had driven over there and stashed it away in my car so I would see it after the meeting!  I was so surprised and his sweet words about our lives together the last few years brought tears to my eyes.

You may think you've got the world's best husband, but I assure you, you don't!  I do!

Next, we came home and ate lunch.  Matthew tried pears for the first time.  Although, it was Gerber pears, I did buy a huge bag of pears from the store last night.  I hope he likes homemade pears as much as Gerber pears!

I am also loving my new Nuby baby feeding spoon.  We have other spoons, but something about the subtle curve of this one makes it so easy to feed Matthew.  I love it!

As you can see, Matthew is probably going to get a crick in his neck by always turning to watch John Michael.  He loves to watch him and he will usually laugh and laugh at him.  Sometimes Matthew will start cracking up when John Michael starts screaming or crying.  That's not very nice at all!

We always have a good time eating breakfast or lunch together.  I have figured out that second babies have an advantage over the first babies: there's always something to look at and something to keep them entertained.  Matthew never tires of watching John Michael.  I know he already loves him so and John Michael has been super sweet about bringing specific toys to Matthew for him to play with.  Love it!

After a long nap we got Matthew's shots and then headed over to Jordan's company picnic.  Every year they have a huge outdoor family event with catered food, music, and this year there were TONS of bouncy houses to jump and play in!

We ran into one of the biggest Bama fans we know, (besides our own family) my brother's fraternity brother, Jeff, his wife, and their new little one, Trent!   I guess you can tell they're big Bama fans because Jeff and Trent are both sporting Bama gear months away from football season!

We ate yummy BBQ inside the big tents.  The ground was soaked and my shoes and chair sank into the ground!  John Michael tried pasta salad for the first time and he loooooved it!  I had to go back for more!

After we ate I got in line for funnel cakes and lemonade with baby Matthew.  We kept each other entertained while Jordan and John Michael went and got in line for the bounce house!

John Michael got to try his first funnel cake and it would be an understatement to say that he really, really, really liked it.  The boy knows he likes sweet fried dough!

Baby Matthew was super smiley and happy the whole time!  I know his hat doesn't match his stripey outfit but it was all I could find in the car.  I also put sunscreen on him for the first time.

The lemonade was nice and cool!

Matthew got a little thirsty out in the heat, so he decided he wanted some of Jordan's water.  He reached and reached until we gave in!

He reaches for our cups and plates all the time.  He can drink out of a regular cup pretty well!

Everyone had a good time!  I wish they had kept the picnic open later but they closed it at 7.  Both boys were tired and Matthew fell asleep immediately upon getting back in the car.  He slept the whole night through, until 7 am which is really weird for him...or else I was too passed out from having to go to Wal-Mart after all this and I just didn't hear him wake up!

From Jack's View

Jackson has been a bit clingy lately.  It could be from all the rain, storms, tornado-like weather, and earthquakes!  He was being so clingy that we let him sit in Jordan's lap at the kitchen table for a little extra TLC!

He looks like he wants some of John Michael's lunch...nothing new about that!

After lunch we looked out the window at all that stinkin' rain.

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Makin' Food

John Michael decided to help me in the kitchen the other day!  He helped me whip up the sweet potatoes for Matthew's baby food!

He helped me with the food processor....

He's always interested in things that "go"!

These yummy sweet potatoes were made and frozen just for Matthew!  At first, Matthew looked a little perplexed....

But he has decided that he looooves sweet potatoes!  Yum!

I saved a few pieces of sweet potatoe out for John Michael to try at lunch and he about threw up on the table!  He was not a fan!  I was glad for his help in the kitchen!
